School Council

Minutes of meeting 14/12/05

1.Healthy Lifestyles

Reps reported that the children are much happier with the new dinners and the healthy snacks at playtime, although some reported that other children are still bringing in chocolate cereal bars. Year 5 & 6 reps asked if spare fruit could be given to all Key Stage 2 classes not just a few classes. Mr Baker said that he would talk to Mrs Stanley about this.

There was some confusion about what drinks are allowed in drink bottles. Mrs King explained that the whole idea is that the drinks are healthy, so fruit juice and sugar free drinks are allowed, as well as water. Drinks do not have to be in a school water bottle but it is helpful if bottles are labelled with names so that lost bottles can be returned to their owners.

Mrs King asked reps to pass on her thanks to everyone who returned a Travel Plan questionnaire. She told the children that because of the excellent response to the idea of a Walking Bus from Turnberry Road she is meeting with the LEAs Travel Plan Coordinator to set this up.

2. Newsletter

Annabel reported to council that the newsletter has been completed and is now ready to be photocopied for distribution around the school.

3. Lost Property

All lost property is going to a charity that is distributing warm clothes to areas affected by the earthquake in Asia. Mr Baker asked reps to remind all children that all clothes need to be named especially school sweatshirts and coats, so that we can return them to their owners. Mrs King explained the rota for council reps for collecting and returning lost property. This is displayed on the School Council Noticeboard. Reps will be collecting up lost property daily and trying to return it to children. Any unnamed items will be put in the lost property box under the playground friends stand near Earth Classroom.

4. Behaviour in toilets

Mr Baker requested that all children are asked to improve their behaviour in the toilets and asked school council reps to report any incidents immediately.

5. A.O.B.

Skipping Ropes

Reps were concerned that these are causing accidents. They voted unanimously for a cordoned off area for skipping. Mrs King to organise cones or other form of barrier for this.

Locks on girls toilet doors

Reps reported that the locks have not been fixed. Mrs King has put this on Mr Broadbent’s job sheet but has promised to remind Mr Broadbent about this job.

Chewing Gum

One rep reported seeing a child eating chewing gum. Mr Baker asked reps to remind all children that chewing gum is not allowed in school.
