THE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OF

TEACHING STAFF.

Continuing Professional Development has taken the form of Training Days, in-school training and courses provided externally through Walsall Education or Wolverhampton University.  The five NQT's employed from September 2001 have undertaken a personal induction programme in addition to any other training provided.
The criteria used to evaluate training for Continuing Professional Development is:
1. It's effect on classroom practice-
i. Improvement in the quality of teaching.
ii. Improvement in the effectiveness of children's learning.
iii. Improvement in the management of pupil performance.
2. Improvement in the efficiency and effectiveness of administrative and organisational procedures used by teachers.
3. Improvement of pupil performance.  This is measured through the termly monitoring, analysis and evaluation of Teacher Assessments of children's work.  The effectiveness of other aspects of teacher's work is monitored and through Performance Management, target setting and appraisal.
Training Days During 2001-2002
4/6/2001  Reporting to Parents. Training update on procedures and process using computer assisted report writing.
2/7/2001  Target setting and the management of pupil performance.
3/7/2001  Planning Review.  Reviewing and revising the whole school approach to the delivery of Curriculum 2000. Use of Teaching Assistants in Foundation Stage. Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.
3/9/2001  Quality Assurance.   Training to update working and administrative procedures in school.
28/9/2001  Thinking Skills. Shared training with cluster group schools on the integration of thinking skills into classroom practice.
3 &
4/1/2002  Curriculum Development.  Training to review and improve the quality of planning and teaching within year groups.  Time for this training was subsumed into Wednesday Year Group sessions.
21/6/2002   Continuous School Improvement.  Training on the use of a computer based package to enable staff to improve a range of professional skills.
In
- school Training
During 2001-2002, all teaching staff (except NQT's) have undertaken New Opportunities Fund financed training in ICT in order to improve personal competence and classroom provision.  This training has taken place in school using an input from external trainers.
Training using external providers.
The school has used Walsall Education as a training provider throughout the year.  Teachers in Foundation Stage,  KS1 and KS2 have attended basic and updating courses on Literacy and Numeracy using National Literacy and Numeracy Strategy trainers.  Initiatives such as 'Grammar for writing', Improving early writing' and the Five Day Numeracy Skills courses have had a direct impact on improving the quality of curriculum provision in the school.
Curriculum co-ordinators have attended courses with content specific to their areas of responsibility.  These have included Assessment, ICT, all National Curriculum Core and many Foundation subjects.
An NNEB is currently undergoing a training programme to provide her with Qualified Teacher Status
